United States of America

Constitution Structure

Government Break Down

The Federal Government is composed of three distinct branches: legislative, executive, and judicial, whose powers are vested by the U.S. Constitution in the Congress, the President, and the Federal courts, respectively. Federal elections occur every two years, on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. Every member of the House of Representatives and about one-third of the Senate is up for reelection in any given election year. Federal elections are administered by state and local governments, although the specifics of how elections are conducted differ between the states. Under the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, all powers not granted to the Federal Government are reserved for the States and the people.

US Main Political Parties

USA Main Political Parties

The Democratic Party

The Democratic Party (whose logo is a donkey) generally represents left-leaning, liberal and progressive ideological values, thus advocating for a strong government to regulate business and support for the citizens of the United States. Thus, one of the key values emphasized by Democrats is social responsibility. Overall, Democrats believe that a prominent and powerful government can ensure welfare and equality for all.

The Republic Party

The Republican Party is often referred to as the GOP. This abbreviation stands for Grand Old Party. Its logo is an elephant. The Republican Party is known to support right-leaning ideologies of conservatism, social conservatism, and economic libertarianism, among other -isms. Thus, Republicans broadly advocate for traditional values, a low degree of government interference, and large support of the private sector. One main standpoint of the Republican Party platform is a strong focus on the family and individual freedom. Generally, the Republican Party therefore often tends to promote states’ and local rights.

Political Demographic - USA Election Results 2020

Figure 1 - National  Map

This map shows where either the Republicans (red arrows) or Democrats (blue arrows) have performed better than in 2016. It is far from a consistent picture, with both parties gaining in some areas and losing support in others. Narrow gains for Mr Biden in GeorgiaArizonaMichiganWisconsin and, crucially, Pennsylvania, were enough for him to flip those states and win the presidency. Unfortunately for Mr Trump, his gains were concentrated in states he already won last time around - for example strongholds such as IdahoUtahArkansas and Tennessee.

Figure 2 - Winner by county ,scaled by population density

As in 2016 Trump outperformed his rival in rural parts of the country, whereas Mr Biden racked up votes in the cities. The map above displays the election results at the county level, with clusters of metropolitan cities in blue surrounded by less-populous cities and towns in red. Counties where votes are still being counted are grey.

However ,Trump is also estimated to have gained 12 points among Latino voters, bringing him nearly level with Mr Biden.
