First hand opinions of the individuals residing in Cape Coral can be understood from the following statement:
‘ I have lived on a cape canal for 20 years and have viewed the continual degeneration of the water quality. Some of it is directly related to the increase in population along our fresh and saltwater canals, other is the continual reduction of open everglade lands and draining of the land to make room for housing development. A good percentage of the cause of degeneration is the bilge discharge from boats, dirty two cycle engines, unregulated live aboards, and the disregard for environment.’
Precipitation in the United States of America
Rainfall can impact the site of Cape Coral as it faces higher Average Annual Precipitation in comparison to other areas of the United States of America. In cases of heavy rainfall there is less chance of it being soaked up by the soil therefore a lack of infiltration so it runs off into the river. The faster the water reaches the river, the more likely it will flood.
