Residential Architectural Vernacular Regionally
The region surrounding Florida is the 'Deep South', also included here are the islands of close proximity, The Bahamas and Cuba. The historic architectural vernacular of the region utilises methods of climate control, specifically sunshade. Such examples shown include verandas, loggias and shutters. In more urban areas, colonnades are popular, providing the interiors, and the passing public, with a more comfortable level of shade and protection from the wet-season rain. Furthest south, in particular Key West, Havana and the Bahamas, bright colours are common place.
