Residential Architectural Vernacular in Cape Coral
Most of the residential architecture in Cape Coral consists of a monoculture of detached homes, typically bungalow’s, from small to large, fronted by a driveway with ornamental gardens such as a lawns and palms. The few higher density developments include apartments, however, typically low-rise. High rise developments are very rare in Cape Coral. Apartment blocks are set away from the street behind car parking.

Commercial Architectural Vernacular in Cape Coral
Like most of suburban USA, commercial architecture is car-centric. The architecture is set far from the street, fronted by vast car parking, with a large store front and signs designed to be read from the road, while the other sides of the building are often blank. The more pedestrian friendly strip malls are comprised of smaller commercial units which are closer to the street frontage, with activity at the forecourt such as seating.
